Your eyes jump about three times a second. During every one of those jumps
your brain shuts vision off — because the smear would be useless to you.

Add those gaps up and it comes to a rough estimate of forty minutes a day
spent blind. You never notice, because your brain fills the holes by
stretching the next image backwards in time.

Test it yourself: glance at a ticking clock. The first second looks longer.
That stretched second is the hole.
